The instructor showed us how to buckle up, start the car, and other safety stuff.

2-3 car lengths behind

Driver's Education 401 - Stay 2-3 Car Lengths Behind, At 145 MPH!  No Problem.

  • RPDE uses Goodyear tires. Tires are replaced at the first sign of wear.
  • Laps are tracked with electronic lap timers for maximum efficiency in car maintenance and safety.
  • Lap sheets are not guaranteed due to the nature of computers and the weather.
  • All cars are rotated so each can be checked thoroughly by RPDE staff.
  • Replacement cars are readily available in the case of a mechanical mishap. Any complaint with a car is immediately inspected and the problem solved before another student goes onto the track.
  • All cars have fire extinguishers which are inspected on a yearly basis.
  • All students are given a neck brace and physically buckled in and instructed on safe operation by Pit Road personnel.
  • Students ALWAYS follow an instructor on the track in EVERY class. The lead instructor is used to set the pace.
  • All students run at their own pace to avoid the feeling of being rushed.
  • There is radio communication between the flagger, all of Pit Road, and the instructor. There is not communication with the student.
  • Students are not given the Graduation packets until the Graduation ceremony at the end of the Experience.
  • The Pit Road Coordinator will critique the students after each round, and point out ways to ensure the students get the most out of the experience.
  • The instruction portion of the experience is done through a van. The students are taken around the speedway in a passenger van, within that time the student learns driving lines, instructor signals, and flagman signals etc. Then the students stand beside the car and learn the safety equipment and entering and exiting of the car.

The instructor in the white van near the upper right corner showed us the proper "line " to drive.
